Microsoft have used a cunning way to protect their Xbox 360 games, in the form of "security sectors". These are small parts of the DVD which contain information about your game and how it's a legal copy. These sectors are incredibly small and can only be ready by Microsoft and your Xbox console. This means that if you put the game into your PC, it will not be able to read these hidden sectors, preventing it from copying them.
And because the Xbox 360 only plays games which it can see the security sectors for, it's no wonder that people have such a hard time trying to backup and copy their games. This is also the reason why mod chips are so popular - because they work to make your console ignore these security sectors on your game, making your console run any disc you want. Many people are stuck with games that can get scratched, simply because they cannot get their PC to copy the game as they need.
If you don't want to void the warranty by getting a mod chip, you really need to be able to copy Xbox games on a 1:1 ration, perfectly duplicating the exact disc. Your console does not know which games are legally copied or are original - it just knows that if the security sectors are intact, it should try and run the game. This means that you need to be able to get a tool or system which is able to copy your Xbox games perfectly, even duplicating their security sectors. This type of program or tool is actually known as the "holy grail" to many members of the game copying community, because it's so elusive.
However, you can actually copy Xbox360 games very easily with a tool called GameBackupSystem. This tool has been created by an anonymous team, but we were able to backup and play 20+ Xbox360 games with it. It copies your game discs perfectly, including the copyright protection sectors. This means that you can copy as many games as you want with the system, and then play them on your console without a mod chip.
